March 2020 Gin of the Month - Kinrara Scottish Highland Dry Gin
This month our Gin of the Month for our Scottish Gin Club members is one of our all time favourites. Find out more about Kinrara Dry Gin and the highland distillery below.
Based in a 250 year old converted farm steading, Kinrara’s highland distillery is nestled in 12,000 acres of Cairngorm National Park, just outside Aviemore.
The centuries old Cairngorm estate was founded by Lady Jane Gordon, beautiful socialite and co-creator of the famous Gordon Highlanders. Known as the ‘Empress of fashion’, she was born during Britain’s notorious gin craze, and later held lavish parties and soirée evenings where up and coming artists were invited to perform. It was in her drawing room that Rabbie Burns first read his poetry to Edinburgh society.
The Kinrara Estate offers a stunning range of flora and berries that are foraged to make the gins along with a range of carefully sourced botanicals. This allows Kinrara to create a unique range of premium highland gins.
Kinrara Distillery prides itself on creating a handcrafted small batch spirit. From the distillation of the gin right down to the bottling, everything is lovingly done by hand, by the passionate highland team.
As the distillery grows, the team plan to craft single malt whisky too.
Kinrara Scottish Highland Dry Gin
Kinrara’s flagship gin – the Scottish Highland Dry Gin - was launched in March 2018 and is a multi-award winner.
It’s made using 8 botanicals including juniper, coriander, angelica, orange, lemon, liquorice root as well as rosehip and rowanberries foraged from the estate.
On the nose it’s fruity and floral with rosehips and rowanberries leading you into a smooth gin with a long subtle orange and juniper finish
Best enjoyed over ice with a quality tonic (we highly recommend Cushiedoos) and finished off with a sliver of orange peel. We love Cushiedoos Tonic as it is quinine-free so it's not as bitter as many other tonics on the market. It also doesn't dry the palate out.
